A l’automne 2022, le vibraphoniste de jazz français Alexis Valet a suivi le soleil, d’est en ouest, et entrepris un voyage à New York. Après trois mois sur place à jouer, jammer et absorber autant de musique que possible, il a décidé d’y enregistrer un album, Following the Sun, capsule de son expérience de la Grosse Pomme. Entouré d’une équipe de haut vol, formée du saxophoniste Dayna Stephens, du pianiste Aaron Parks, du contrebassiste Joe Martin et du batteur Kush Abadey, le Frenchie n’a pas flanché, puisant dans son passé de sportif les ressources pour donner le meilleur de lui-même et démontrer qu’il compte parmi les nouveaux maitres de son instrument. Métaphore de son aventure, son Following the Sun, ancré au plus vif du jazz actuel, sonne comme une quête de cette lumière qui permet à tout être vivant de croître et se développer, et qu’on pourrait autrement appeler l’inspiration.

In the fall of 2022, French jazz vibraphonist Alexis Valet followed the sun, from east to west, and embarked on a trip to New York. After three months there playing, jamming and absorbing as much music as possible, he decided to record an album, “Following the Sun”, that encapsulates his experience in the Big Apple. Surrounded by a high-flying team, bringing together saxophonist Dayna Stephens, pianist Aaron Parks, double bassist Joe Martin and drummer Kush Abadey, the Frenchie did not flinch, drawing from his sporting past the resources to give the best of himself and demonstrate that he is among the new masters of his instrument. A metaphor for his adventure, “Following the Sun”, anchored in the heart of current jazz, sounds like a quest for this light which allows all living beings to grow and develop, and which we could otherwise call inspiration.
